Atlanta Streets Alive – Dekalb Ave
The city’s biggest street party is coming to Dekalb Ave. this Sunday!
Let’s meet on Dekalb Ave., outside the Candler Park MARTA Station at 2:00pm (under the pedestrian bridge). We can walk west towards Downtown Atlanta, and capture the bike parade, as they will be coming from the opposite direction. There is loads of texture along this route, including graffiti, train tracks, tunnels (Krog & Boulevard), city views & more.
We will be walking about 3.4 miles of the 4.4 mile route, so wear comfortable shoes, and pack light! No tripod is necessary, and bring your lightest street-smart gear. I recommend a compact, prime lens (either a 35mm or 50mm), if you want to stay true to the origins of street photography, and not lug around too much heavy gear.
Parking & MARTA:
Street parking is limited in the area, and as per usual, ride share, carpool, Uber/Lyft, walking, biking public transit are always encouraged. Candler Park MARTA station is our point of origin, but there are stops all along Dekalb Ave, so you can easily hope on MARTA from anywhere along the route.
For those not familiar, Atlanta Streets Alive is an event sponsored by the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, where the streets are closed to car traffic, and open for pedestrians, biking, skating, playing, etc. There are food trucks, games and activities, and it’s a perfect atmosphere for daytime street photography!
